Island Hopping In Sabah, Borneo

After spending our second month in Bali, it was time to do another ‘visa run.’ We found super cheap flights to Sabah, the Malaysian part of Borneo, though we’d never heard of this place before. After a bit of research we got very excited to visit these pristine islands off the coast of Borneo.

We used AirBnB to book a week’s accommodation in the city of KK (Kota Kinabalu), the capital of Sabah, within walking distance to everything. {Use this link to get $49 off your first AirBnB booking}

Besides our encounter with native proboscis monkeys and wild fireflies on a river cruise through the jungles of Northern Sabah, the absolute highlight of our trip was, you guessed it, island hopping!

Tip: Jessleton Point is where you can buy tickets for all the excursions Sabah has to offer including island hopping tours.

We made our way to the harbour of Jessleton Point to start our epic day of island hopping.

Its fair to say that the Islands of Sabah are one of the most exotic places I’ve ever visited so far during my travels.

We spent our time snorkelling in the clear reef at the islands of Sapi, Manukhan and Mamotek…

In my element 😁 🤙🏼 #happydays

We admired the truly exotic scenery we were in…

  1. I absolutely loved Malaysian Borneo when I was there (almost 5 years ago now! Goes too fast!) and would actually like to get back! I never did the island hopping but I did go scuba dive at Sipadan. Loved seeing all your great underwater photos – the snorkeling there is just incredible! 🙂

  2. That looks awesome! I haven’t been to Borneo unfortunately but I would love to go there. We will head to Malaysia later this year so maybe! It looks great.
